* Podi Lassi reveals details of a plot to murder jailed gang member

Oct 17, Colombo: According to the information revealed by the well-known underworld figure Janith Madusanka alias ‘Podi Lassi’, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered an automatic pistol, a tipper truck and a brand new car hidden in the Thelwatta area in Meetiyagoda today (17).

It has been revealed that Podi Lassi who was taken into custody by the CID on October 15th on detention orders, had planned to use the truck and car to assassinate Janith Nishantha of Meetiyagoda, a prisoner who is an aide of Manoj Mendis, who was killed a few years ago.

Podi Lassie is the main suspect in the murder of Rathgama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Manoj Mendis, who was linked to organized crime in 2015 in Hikkaduwa.

The CID investigators found a US-made automatic pistol hidden in the Thelwatta area in Meetiyagoda today (17) and a truck hidden in a brick kiln and a brand new car hidden in a garage in the Habaraduwa area.

The vehicles and the firearm were found to belong to Podi Lassi, the officials said.

Investigations have revealed that an attack using the vehicles and the firearm was planned on the prisoner when he is being taken in a prison bus.

Although he has been released on bail, Podi Lassi was handed over to the CID to detain and question for 90 days by the court on the 15th. It was during those interrogations that he had revealed about the assassination plot.

Officers of the Colombo Crimes Division arrived at the Thelwatta area in Meetiyagoda today for the raid.
