* Justice Minister appoints five expert committees to streamline judicial process and eliminate delay in trials

Oct 17, Colombo: Minister of Justice Ali Sabry has appointed five committees of senior lawyers to look into the issue of delays in court proceedings and the advancement of the judiciary sector.

Following the approval of the proposal made by Minister of Justice to implement an accelerated program for the process, these five expert committees have been appointed with the objective of resolving the issues in the judiciary within a period of three years.

Five committees of senior lawyers were appointed to identify various problems in the judiciary and to provide the necessary reforms and solutions within a period of three years.

President's Counsel, UR de Silva has been appointed as the Chairman of the Judicial Infrastructure Development Committee and President's Counsel Shavendra Fernando will head the Criminal Law Reform Committee while President's Counsel Naveen Marapana has been appointed as the Chairman of the Judicial System Digitization and Automation Committee.

Attorney-at-Law Kaushalya Navaratne has been appointed as the Chairman of the Commercial Law Reform Committee and Attorney-at-Law Lasith Kanuwanaarachchi has been appointed as the Chairman of the Civil Law Reform Committee.
