* Motor Traffic Department to recommence services from next week

Oct 16, Colombo: The public services provided by the Department of Motor Traffic, which had been temporarily withheld due to the risk of Covid-19 will be recommenced from 20th October 2020.

The services will recommence with a limited staff and subjected to certain limitations, with the aim of minimizing the inconveniences faced by the public, the Department said in a statement.

Accordingly, the clients who expect to obtain the services provided by the Department of Motor Traffic shall contact the numbers set out in the annex hereto during 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on weekdays and make an appointment beforehand to get done the services including registration of a motor vehicle, issuing driving licenses, issuing number plates and issuing reports on vehicle inspection.

No service will be provided outside the said procedure for any purpose.

Further, the facility to hand over the vehicle transfer application to the nearest divisional secretariat or department of motor traffic district offices is also available. Therefore, it is advisable to visit the head office only for an essential service need It will reduce the risk likely to be arisen due to public gathering.

Additionally, the one -day service of issuing licenses provided by the Werahera office will be withheld, until notified later. The said service will be limited to clients who reside in the District of Colombo or employed in Colombo. For that the clients shall ascertain their residency or employment in the relevant area.

However, it is strictly advised that the general public who live in the risky areas where curfew is in effect shall avoid visiting our premises, until the risk is eliminated. We highly expect that our clients would strictly adhere to government advices regarding hygiene and act patiently and sensibly.
