* Coronavirus Update: Divulapitiya COVID-19 cluster rises to 1899, total cases rise to 5,354

Oct 16, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 cases rose to 5,354 Friday as the number of patients associated with the Divulapitiya COVID-19 cluster has increased to 1,899 with the identification of 49 more confirmed positive for the virus, the Ministry of Health said.

Among the 48 cases found positive from the Divulapitiya COVID-19 cluster today, 35 are associates or the staff of the Brandix factory currently in quarantine and 14 are associates of COVID-19 patients.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau report, as of 8 pm Friday, 110 new cases have been reported today and 1,956 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals. Another 316 Individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Thirteen patients have died while 3,385 patients including the Chinese tourist, who was the first COVID-19 case detected in the country in January, have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 365,859 PCR tests have been conducted to detect Covid-19 infected persons from February 18 to October 15, according to the Health Promotion Bureau report.
