Fri, Oct 16, 2020, 11:15 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 16, Colombo: President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has taken steps to make the dreams of the people of Madurankuliya come true and fulfill their requests in a very short period of time, the President’s Media Division said.

Development work on the Madurankuliya Model College playground, Jeevanagama - Kajuwatta road and the Madurankuliya - Mahakumbukkadawala section of the Colombo - Puttalam main road to Adigama has reached its final stage.

The development projects were launched to meet the requests made by the residents during President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's visit to the Puttalam District on September 19.

When the President visited the Madurankuliya Model College, the request made by the students for a sports ground was forwarded to the Army Corps of Engineers and in a short period of 18 days, about 90 percent of the construction work of the ground has been completed.

The sports ground that was being washed away by rainwater was filled with 2200 cubic feet of soil and developed with a proper drainage system.

The President also instructed to remove the unsafe building at the ground and the President’s Media Division said the building has already been demolished and plans are afoot to construct a new one.

At the request of the people of the area, the 4.6 km section of the Jeevanagama - Kajuwatta road is being carpeted and developed. The amount allocated for this is 100 million rupees.

Due to the dilapidated condition of the road connecting Madurankuliya - Thoduwawa and Kalpitiya - Puttalam roads, the people of the area have been facing many problems for a long time. Tourists visiting St. Anne's Church, Talawila, Kalpitiya can also use this road as a shortcut.

The people informed President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa about the dilapidated condition of the Madurankuliya- Andigama road through Mahakumbukkadawala on the Colombo-Puttalam main road.

On the instructions of the President, the construction work commenced expeditiously and the 9.7 km section of the road is being carpeted and developed. During heavy rains, some parts of the road get flooded and it will be developed to a width of 05 meters. The cost is 250 million rupees.
