Nov 22, Colombo: Except for schools in the Western Province and isolated areas, all islandwide schools will be opened on Monday 23 November for the third term academic activities adhering to maximum hygiene practices, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila C. Perera said.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Education said the islandwide schools will be reopened from tomorrow except in the Western Province and other isolated areas as per a planned decision and instructions have been received from the Corona Suppression Task Force and the Health Department.
The State Minister of Bus Transport Services Dilum Amunugama said a special program has been prepared to transport students by buses in the areas where schools will commence from tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the police request the drivers to abide by the guidelines introduced when transporting school children.
The Ministry of Education has decided to grant the third term of school vacation in advance for the safety of school children due to the prevailing health situation.
Accordingly, the third school term was scheduled to commence on November 9. However, on the advice of the health authorities, the Ministry of Education decided to reopen schools in all provinces except the Western Province on November 23
Accordingly, out of the total 10,165 schools in Sri Lanka, all schools except the 1,356 schools in the Western Province which has been severely affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, will be reopened on November 23 for the third term for grades 6-13.
