Nov 21, Colombo: Power supply to the national grid from the Norochcholai Lak Vijaya coal power plant, which had been shut down for maintenance, resumed last night (20), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena said.
The second and third generators of the Lak Vijaya power plant had been shut down for maintenance, the spokesman said. However there were no power cuts as the hydropower generation is currently at its peak.
The spokesman further said that with the completion of the second phase of the maintenance work, 300 MW was restored to the national grid from last night (20).
At the same time, it is said that the maintenance work of the 3rd stage generator, which is currently shut down, is due to be completed next week.
Accordingly, the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Plant has started supplying 600 MW to the national grid.
However, in the face of the current COVID-19 situation, it is reported that the heads of the institutions have taken steps to admit only the staff to the Lakvijaya power plant in accordance with strict health regulations.
