Nov 20, Colombo: The Special Task Force (STF) of Police arrested three persons in the Modara area in Weligama today (20) with a stock of narcotics worth Rs. 1 billion, Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The STF have seized a car and 100 kilos of heroin along with the suspects. The raid was carried out by the STF following a tip off received by the STF Special Intelligence Unit, the spokesman said.
According to information received that an individual from the Kotikawatta area in Colombo has arrived in a luxury car in the Modara area in Weligama to purchase a stock of narcotics, the STF raided the area and found 25 kilos of narcotics in the car, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that during the interrogation of the three persons who were staying there at that time, another 75 kilos of narcotics hidden in a nearby land were found.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the stock of narcotics belonged to a person named Vidura, a large scale drug trafficker who had fled to Italy, a senior police officer said.
The senior police officer said that the drugs had arrived in the country by sea.
The two suspects arrested are residents of Weligama and the other suspect is a resident of Kotikawatta, Wellampitiya, Colombo.
The raid was carried out by the STF Special Operations Division.
