Nov 20, Colombo: Former Ministers Ravi Karunanayake and a director of Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. Arjun Joseph Aloysius have been summoned by the Colombo High Court to appear in court on February 05.

High Court Judge Aditya Patabedige issued the order in connection with a case filed by the Bribery Commission against Ravi Karunanayake for buying a house with money issued by a company headed by Arjun Joseph Aloysius.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in September indicted Ravi Karunanayake and Arjun Aloysius for allegedly committing an offense under Section 19 (c) of the Bribery Act.

The Bribery Commission alleges that the former Minister had solicited a bribe while serving as a public servant from February 12, 2016 to September 30, 2016 by residing at 5PH2 apartment of Monarch Housing complex, owned by a company in which Arjun Aloysius was a director.

The indictment alleges that Arjun Aloysius has paid Rs. 11.68 million for the house by checks from the Walt & Row Associates (Pvt.) Ltd. of which Aloysius was a director and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. He has been named as the second accused in the case, and charged under Section 19 (c) of the Bribery Act for aiding and abetting the process.

A total of six indictments have been filed against the two accused by the Bribery Commission.

The plaintiff has named 58 people as witnesses in the case and listed 32 documents as product items in the case.
