June 28, Colombo: There is no truth in the rumors that the World Muslim League has given US $ 5 million to Sri Lanka after the Easter Sunday attacks, the media unit of former President Maithripala Sirisena said.
A press release issued by the former President’s Media Unit said that since seven conditions have not been completed no funds have been given.
Various groups had stated on several occasions that the World Muslim League at a convention of held in Sri Lanka on June 30 last year had donated US$ 5 million to the former President Maithripala Sirisena as aid to the victims of the 21 April 2019 Easter Sunday bomb attacks.
The former President has participated in the event as the Chief Guest.
With the controversy over the money, the then Governor of the Western Province AJM Muzammil, who organized the conference, had inquired about this from the World Muslim Organization.
Former President's media unit says that the Secretary General of the World Muslim Organization, Dr. Sheikh Mohd bin Abdul Karim, has sent a letter in reply.
The letter states that the relevant money was not given to Sri Lanka since the government has not provided the information including the number of casualties, their religions, the names of the injured, the value of the damaged property and the charity accounts of the President or the Prime Minister.
The letter also stated that the World Muslim League will work with Sri Lanka in future to provide the aid.
