June 28, Colombo: Election Commissioner General Saman Rathnayake says that no candidate can run private election offices at the general election.

He said that political parties contesting the election could set up one office at the district level and one at the electorate level and one for each polling station.

The Commissioner also stressed that the same law would apply to independent groups as well. The Commission also calls for the support of all political parties and independent groups contesting the election to ensure that the elections are held giving priority to health safety guidelines.

Although the elections will be held on August 5, the counting of votes will take place on August 6, the Election Commission said.
