* Steps to make educational institutions, including schools, safe premises free from the dangers of drugs

July 31, Colombo: Arrangements have been made to issue a new circular containing instructions on how to make schools and all other educational institutions under the Ministry of Education premises free of drugs in line with the national program being implemented under the leadership of the President to eradicate the menace of drugs from the country.

The circular has given instructions on how heads of the institutions should intervene to prevent the promotion, use or sale of narcotics, alcohol, tobacco products or all substitute products in all schools and all other premises used for educational purposes including external facilities, the Ministry of Education said.

In addition, the circular will raise awareness among the community, including school children, on drug prevention other activities and will also inform about the measures to be taken for this purpose, including the establishment of coordinating committees at the institutional level.

The circular will strengthen the national program to prevent child abuse in Sri Lanka.
