July 30, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy has nabbed a suspect who was smuggling a stock of dried turmeric in the beach area of Oluthuduwai, Mannar on Tuesday (July 28).

The Navy is conducting special patrols to monitor the migration of COVID-19 infected persons by sea to Sri Lanka as well as to curb illegal activities along the coast.

Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, during a patrol at Oluthuduwai beach, Mannar had interrogated a person who was suspiciously transferring several delivery sacks.

The seized items were handed over to the Customs Office of Jaffna for onward legal action.

Due to COVID -19 concerns, the detained suspect was produced to the Public Health Inspector of Mannar for quarantine, through Medical Officer of Health.
