* 429 arrested in special police raids in Western Province

July 03, Colombo: The police have arrested 429 suspects in connection with narcotics and other illegal activities during raids conducted from 6 am Thursday to 5 am Friday in Western Province.

The police have conducted 424 raids during the 23 hour period and 195 suspects have been arrested for heroin trafficking. Among the arrested were 97 suspects for Cannabis dealing, 22 suspects for goda and ‘ice’ trafficking and 11 for other illegal activities.

A special raid has been conducted in the Payagala area to nab heroin traffickers.

Meanwhile, 20 persons who were not wearing face masks were directed to self-quarantine at homes, the Police said.
