July 02, Colombo: A four-member committee has been appointed to discuss the issues related to the electricity bills resulted from imposing the curfew due to COVID-19 pandemic and propose measures to provide relief to the affected consumers.
The report of the committee is to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers next week.
Various complaints have been received from the public regarding issues relating to the electricity bills issued in March and April. The matter was discussed at the Cabinet meeting held yesterday (01).
The President has instructed Minister of Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera to appoint a committee to look into the matter.
The Committee is chaired by Mr. Hemantha Samarakoon, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy. The committee also includes the General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board and two other officials. The Ministry Secretary has instructed the committee to submit the report by Monday.
