Dec 10, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa held a special discussion with the heads of health sector at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament Thursday (10) to find out whether the bodies of those who died of the COVID-19 virus could be buried.
The Prime Minister advised to choose a very dry area where the ground water level is very deep as per the advice of the health experts for burying the bodies of the people who died due to COVID-19 virus.
The health authorities informed the Prime Minister that the virus will be present in the body of a person who dies from the virus for about 36 days.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is not possible to make decisions on health issues on the basis of race or religion and added that the support of the people of all communities is required to follow the health guidelines.
The Prime Minister requested the Muslim MPs present at the meeting to extend their support in this regard.
Cabinet Ministers Ali Sabry, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, State Minister Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Members of Parliament and Secretary to the Ministry of Health SH Munasinghe were also present on the occasion.
