Dec 08, Colombo: A large number of people flocked to the Udumagama area in Hettimulla, Kegalle today to obtain an indigenous medicine made by Dhammika Bandara, who claims his concoction kills the coronavirus and cures the viral disease.
According to local media more than 10,000 people had come to the local healer’s house at Udumagama village in Hettimulla today to obtain the medicine, which claims to cure coronavirus disease.
The medicine, which was popularized by Sri Lanka’s Health Minister, has been distributed free of charge to visitors. The people who came to the place were seen gathering in violation of the quarantine rules.
As a result, there was heavy traffic at the scene and police were deployed to control it.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the Kegalle SSP has been instructed to submit a full report on the incident.
This incident was also discussed in Parliament today. Member of Parliament Chaminda Wijesiri who participated in the Budget Committee debate said the Minister of Health and State Minister of Health popularized the local medicine, known as “Dammika Peniya” by consuming it on the TV.
Dhammika Bandara, who formulated the syrup, said it is made of bee honey and other household spices as ingredients and it will be distributed for the people free of charge. He recommended using two table spoonful of the syrup twice a day for two days to prevent from getting infected and for three days if already infected with the disease.
