* Over 2000 prison-associated cases of COVID-19

Dec 06, Colombo: The number of COVID-19 coronavirus cases reported from the prisons has exceeded 2,000 cases, the Department of Prisons said.

The Department of Prisons states that a total of 2,051 COVID-19 infected persons have been identified so far. Among them are 91 prison officers.

Meanwhile, 38 officers and 562 detainees infected with the corona virus have now fully recovered.

All inmates released due to overcrowding in prisons will be subjected to a PCR test or a rapid antigen test, said Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera.
