Dec 03, Colombo: An inmate of the Mahara Prison who escaped from the Colombo North Teaching Hospital in Ragama has been arrested by the prison intelligence officers in the Orugodawatta area.
The inmate who was receiving treatment at the Ragama Hospital after being injured in the riot at the Mahara Prison has escaped last night.
Hospital Director Dr. Shelton Perera said the PCR tests were being carried out on the detainees to check for coronavirus infection and the results are expected soon.
He stated that 14 inmates of the Mahara Prison are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Following the deadly riots started Sunday (November 29) afternoon, 107 inmates and two prison officers injured in the riots were admitted to the Ragama Hospital. Nine inmates have been killed during the melee.
