* Archbishop flays officials who neglected their responsibilities in the Easter attack
Sun, Aug 30, 2020, 10:09 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 30, Colombo: The Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith today (30) said that some people who have neglected the responsibility to prevent the Easter attack are now shedding crocodile tears before the Presidential Commission.

The Archbishop also said that the uniforms of such officials who acted irresponsibly should be removed.

Attending a service at Thewatte National Basilica, the head of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka also called on the current government to find the real culprits behind the Easter Sunday attack and take swift action to punish them.

Speaking further Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo said, the Christian community is waiting “with our eyes open” to see who is responsible for the Easter Sunday attack.

“The current probe is to find out who are the politicians and officials who have not fulfilled their responsibilities. But the people who planted the bombs and the people who paid for them have not yet been identified. I hope the Presidential Commission will do better in finding those behind this incident. I hope that the promise given to us to find who is behind this attack and take action to punish them will be fulfilled.”

“I also hope that justice will be done to those who were involved in this incident and secretly conspired to do such things.”

“If any government tries to hide them and release them without doing so, I will oppose that government. The previous government did not investigate this properly. Even though they knew the facts very well, they did not do anything about it. They are still trying to save themselves.”

“There is no point in going to the Presidential Commission and shedding tears. They are crocodile tears. Why did they not fulfill their responsibilities at that time? The uniforms of the officers who did not do so should be removed,” the Archbishop said. (Source: Lankadeepa Sunday)
