* SLFP to support President’s future plans

Aug 09, Colombo: General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Dayasiri Jayasekara says the party will support President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in strengthening his future plans.

He said this after a discussion held at the party headquarters today between the SLFP parliamentarians who contested and won the general election under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and party chairman, former President Maithripala Sirisena.

Speaking to media after the discussion Jayasekara said the party has decided to give its full support to the future course of action of the President.

“We give our support to strengthen any process of government in Parliament. We look forward to working with the President and the Prime Minister,” said Dayasiri Jayasekara.

Speaking at the briefing newly elected MP form Galle District Shan Wijayalal de Silva said their primary goal is to give maximum support to the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in their tenure to fulfill the people’s aspirations.

At the just concluded General Election 14 SLFP members have been elected to the parliament. Only SLFP leader and former President Sirisena contested under the SLFP while the others contested the election under the SLPP led by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

According to the Election Commission, following SLFP members have been elected to the 9th parliament at the 2020 General Election held on August 05.
