* Organized crime gang leader ‘SF Lokka’ killed in shooting

Aug 05, Colombo: An organized crime gang leader, Iron Ranasinghe alias ‘S.F. Lokka’ alias has been shot dead in the Dahaiyagama area in Anuradhapura this morning (05). His car had been fired upon at the Dahaiyagama Junction railway crossing on Anuradhapura-Kurunegala main road in Anuradhapura.

A woman who was traveling in the car with SF Lokka was injured in the shooting and hospitalized for treatment

Police said SF Lokka, who had been charged with a number of crimes, was 33 years old at the time of his death.

Preliminary investigations into the shooting has revealed that the car had been shot at with a T-56 automatic firearm eight times. The car had caught fire after the shooting and was completely destroyed.

The shooting had been carried out by two persons who had arrived on a motorbike, OIC of the Anuradhapura Police, Chief Inspector Dayan Samarakoon told Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Janaka Prarasanna Samarasinghe.

Following the Magistrate’s inquiries, the burnt car was removed from the scene and the Anuradhapura-Kurunegala main road was reopened to traffic.

Magistrate Samarasinghe went to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital morgue where Iron Ranasinghe’s body is laid and ordered the Judicial Medical Officer of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital to conduct the post mortem examination and submit the post mortem report to the court.

The Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate ordered Chief Inspector of the Anuradhapura Police Sanjeewa Mahanama to immediately arrest the suspects in the shooting death of Iron Ranasinghe alias SF Lokka, who has been named as a suspect in a number of criminal cases, including the murder of karate champion Wasantha Zoysa in Anuradhapura, and produce before the court.
