Aug 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka amid coronavirus pandemic successfully held 2020 General Election Wednesday to elect a new parliament under strict health safety measures.

The Election Commission said overall about 71 percent of eligible voters have cast their ballots islandwide.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa cast his vote for the Parliamentary Election 2020 at Sri Vivekaramaya Temple in Pangiriwatta, Nugegoda this morning (5). First Lady Ayoma Rajapaksa also cast her vote.

Leader of the United National Party and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe cast his ballot in Colombo this morning.

Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Sajith Premadasa cast his vote at the polling station at Suranimala Primary School, Weerawila, Tissamaharama.

Leader of National People's Power (NPP) led by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake voted at the Saikogi Pre School at Abeysinharama in Panchikawatte, Colombo this morning.
