* Sri Lanka Election monitor deploys 5,000 observers for the General Election

Aug 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s election monitoring body, the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election (PAFFREL) says it has deployed 5,000 observers across the country to monitor the election process.

PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi has told NewsRadio that 2,010 trained monitors will also be deployed to counting centers.

Hettiarachchi said observers have been deployed to cover all relevant locations and they will observe the handling of the ballot boxes, the countering centers, counting process and locations where results will be announced.

He added 3,040 stationed observers and 260 mobile observer teams have been deployed to monitor the election, while nearly 5,000 officers and coordinators have been stationed in each Divisional Secretariat to monitor the process.
