Aug 04, Colombo: The government has decided to temporarily suspend the repatriation of Sri Lankans stranded overseas from today (4) to the 8th in view of the general election to be held tomorrow (August 05).
Admiral (Retd) Jayanath Colombage, Additional Secretary to the President for External Affairs, said that the decision was taken due to possible obstacles in admitting Sri Lankans from overseas due to the deployment of members of the security forces and health personnel for election duties.
He said that the process of bringing Sri Lankans to the island will resume from the 8th after the election.
Accordingly, on the 8th, over 660 Sri Lankans stranded in Dubai, United Arab Emirates are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka.
Thereafter, Sri Lankans from Australia, Singapore, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Malaysia, Maldives and India will be repatriated.
