Tue, Aug 4, 2020, 10:27 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Aug 04, Colombo: The Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said in a special statement to the media yesterday requested the public to fulfill their duty properly to elect a suitable group of people who can make decisions for the future prosperity of the country in this general election.

He said that important decisions that would determine the future of the country in the next five years would be taken by the new Parliament and that it was the responsibility of all of us to participate in the elections and called for maintaining a peaceful environment in the country after the elections.

“There is no doubt that the general election to be held on August 05 to re-elect our Parliament will be an opportunity to decide the future of this country. Important decisions that will determine the future of the country in the next five years will be taken by this Parliament. Therefore, as citizens of this country we all have a responsibility to participate in this Parliamentary election. It is the duty of all of us.”

“Therefore, I earnestly request all the people of Sri Lanka to go to the polls and fulfill their civic duty,” Cardinal Ranjith said.

The Archbishop requested the people to express their consent in accordance with the program presented by the Election Commission and the security forces and the instructions given by the health sector.

Through this (election) it is the responsibility of the people to select suitable candidates for Parliament. The decision of the people is important to take appropriate decisions for the future of this country and to take the country towards progress. Do not miss that opportunity. If any trouble happens to the country, those who do not vote will become part of it. Therefore, I urge you to come forward and give the valuable vote to the right people without missing it.”
