* All polling centers to be disinfected today and tomorrow

Aug 03, Colombo: The health authorities have made arrangements to disinfect and sanitize all polling centers island wide today (03) and tomorrow (04) with the assistance of Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas and under the supervision of Health Officers.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe has informed the Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya that metal surfaces at polling stations should be disinfected with a 70% alcohol-based solvent and non-metal surfaces should be disinfected with 0.1 percent sodium hypochlorite.

All interior and exterior walls of polling booths shall be disinfected to a height of 6 feet above floor level.

Voters must wash their hands with soap or sanitize with hand sanitizer, according to the guidelines issued by the health department.

The Ministry of Health has also decided to deploy health officers, including public health inspectors, at polling stations under the supervision of local health service directors and medical officers.
