* All election campaigning and propaganda activities end midnight today

Aug 02, Colombo: The Elections Commission announced that all election campaigning and propaganda activities for the Parliamentary Election 2020 must end at midnight today.

All types of canvassing or election campaigning activities for the Election should end 48 hours before the election.

Accordingly, holding rallies, appealing for votes, going door to door, distributing leaflets, displaying billboards, displaying posters, advertisements and banners will be prohibited after midnight today, the Elections Commission said.

The Election Commission has emphasized that all Social Media Activists, YouTube channel owners, Facebook account administrators and Web activists must refrain from all forms of campaign propaganda activities during the silent period of the Election which begins from the midnight on August 2.

The Elections Commission urges the public to abstain from any illegal activities during the silent period and to extend their fullest support to hold free and fair elections.
