* Suspect arrested with over Rs. 31 m and USD 140,000 earned from drug trafficking

Aug 01, Colombo: A suspect has been arrested during a raid of a house in the Dematagoda area with US $ 140,000 and Rs. 31.3 million in cash believed to have earned from drug trafficking.

The raid was carried out this morning following a tip off received by the Colombo North Special Road Block Unit.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect had acted as an intermediary in the money transactions of drug traffickers.

The 55-year-old suspect has been handed over to the Colombo Harbor Police for further investigations.The Harbour Police are conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Crimes Division today arrested Sithum Nilanga Peiris alias Asanka, an accomplice of Kudu Anju, an underworld member in Panchikawatte.

Following the information obtained from interrogating the suspect, a foreign made revolver, 10 rounds of ammunition and 10 rounds of ammunition for 9mm pistols were found in his rented house in the Meegoda Police Division.

The suspect is also accused of aiding and abetting a shooting that took place in Piliyandala in 2016.
