* Vidullanka completes construction of second hydropower plant in Uganda

Aug 01, Colombo: Vidullanka PLC has successfully completed the construction of the 6.5MW Bukinda Small Hydro Power Plant in Uganda.

According to a stock market disclosure, the power plant located in Kibaale District of Uganda has been commissioned to the national grid on 30 July 2020.

The Bukinda Small Hydro Power Plant is owned and operated by Timex Bukinda Hydro (Uganda) Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Vidullanka PLC.

The project, which utilizes the flow of Nkusi River at Rugashari, Kibaale, is expected to annually supply 27.4GWh electrical energy to the national grid of Uganda. The project will and annually reduces the carbon emission by 17,000 tons.

Bukinda Small Hydro Power Project is Vidullanka PLC’s second overseas project. Vidullanka entered Uganda in 2015 to construct the US$ 13.5 million 6.5 MW Muvumbe Small Hydro Power Plant, which was commissioned in 2017.
