May 21, Colombo: Over 61,000 people have been arrested in Sri Lanka in last two months for breaking curfew imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The police said a total of 61,093 people have been arrested for violating the curfew since the islandwide curfew initially imposed at 6 pm March 20th until 6 am today (May 21).
The police also seized 17,172 vehicles during this period for traveling without a permit during the curfew.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested 668 people in the 24 hours from Wednesday (20) 6 am to Thursday 6 am, for violating the curfew and seized 248 vehicles.
According to the Police Media Unit, 17,949 cases have been filed pertaining to incidents of violation of curfew regulations since the 20th of March and 6,706 people have been sentenced.
