May 05, Colombo: Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe confirmed the ninth death from the COVID-19 coronavirus in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Jasinghe said a 52-year-old female succumbed to the virus today while receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.
The deceased was a resident of Modara, Colombo and was receiving medical treatments in the Incentive Care Unit of IDH.
Sri Lanka reported 9 new cases today, raising the total number of people contracted the coronavirus to 760 the Health Ministry said.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau update released at 7 pm Tuesday, 538 confirmed patients are receiving treatment at hospitals while 145 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.
Nine patients have died and 213 patients including the Chinese tourist, who was the first COVID-19 case detected in the country in January and discharged last month, have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
