Mar 30, Colombo: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has stressed that no ad-hoc decisions should be taken at regional level regarding curfews and isolating areas, after a local government authority locked down an area in a suburb of Colombo yesterday on misinformation.

Issuing a statement, the President’s Media Division said all the decisions with regard to imposition of curfew, selection of localities to implement curfew and declaration of isolated areas are being taken at the highest level of the Government following an in-depth analysis of data received.

If there is any information that suggests changes to ongoing curfew hours at any place, the same should be forwarded to the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of COVID – 19.

The Government announced that no decision should be taken at the regional level which can cause disruption of civilian life.

On the instructions of local authorities, Arunodaya Mawatha at Obeysekerepura in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, was locked down for a brief period following the information that a group of people, who had gone on a pilgrimage with a pastor to Jaffna, were found with COVID-19 symptoms.
