Mar 29, Colombo: Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said the entire Akurana village in Kandy has been quarantined and over 100 persons in Kadayankulam in Puttalam have been directed to be quarantined after two COVID-19 patients were found.
Accordingly, measures will be taken to quarantine 118 persons from Kadayankulam, who had come into contact with a COVID-19 patient for 14 days at a quarantine center set up within the village, Puttalam District Secretary Chandrasiri Bandara said.
The Secretary said that a quarantine center has been set up in a section of the Zahira National School in Puttalam.
The Puttalam Municipal Council has commenced the cleaning of a section of the Zahira National School, Puttalam which is to be set up as a quarantine center. The Army is expected to commence the construction of the quarantine center today.
The quarantine center will be supervised by the Army and the Puttalam Municipal Council is to handle the cleaning and catering facilities.
The District Secretary said the decision was taken last night to ensure the safety of the people of Puttalam.
Meanwhile, Atalogama in the Kalutara district and Akurana in Kandy District have been declared as isolated areas. No one is allowed to enter or exit these two villages.
