Mar 26, Colombo: The Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested the government to draw up a comprehensive plan with the consultation of all stakeholders to address the COVID-19 crisis.

“We request the government to address the prevailing crisis in the country with great responsibility and consideration, by drawing up a comprehensive plan in consultation with political, religious and social leaders as well as with professionals and organizations with relevant expertise to meet this challenge,” Wickremesinghe said in a statement.

The former Prime Minister said the United National Party has never used a national disaster to gain political mileage and will not do so in the future.

Wickremesinghe said the measures that could be taken to manage the crisis was discussed at the Party Leaders meeting held at Temple Trees on Tuesday.

“I attended the party leaders’ meeting held at Temple Trees recently and had the opportunity to discuss how we as a country should face the COVID-19 problem. The measures that could be taken by the government to minimize the damage caused by this pandemic were also explored,” he said.

The UNP leader called upon the government to implement those measures immediately.
