Thu, Mar 26, 2020, 11:31 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 26, Colombo: The government owned Ceylon Fertilizer Company (Pvt) Ltd says it will continue to provide free fertilizer to farmers.

The government has taken steps to provide the fertilizer necessary for the 2020 Yala season to the farmers

Acting General Manager of Ceylon Fertilizer Company Priyantha Perera has stated that a vessel carrying 15 metric tons of fertilizer has arrived at the Colombo port.

The government has made fertilizer distribution an essential service. The unloading of the fertilizer from the vessel which arrived at the Colombo harbor will be carried out day and night, according to the official.

The Ceylon Fertilizer Company continues to distribute the required fertilizer from the Hunupitiya main warehouse complex to regional fertilizer warehouses and Agrarian Service Centers Island wide.

With the government declaring that the curfew will not affect the farming activities, the farmers have started to reap the paddy harvest of the Yala season.

Farmers were greatly inconvenienced by the curfew imposed when the paddy harvesting season began. The government has paid attention to the issue and permitted the farmers to engage in harvesting activities during the curfew.

Paddy harvesting is being done in the Anuradhapura district at present. The harvesting of paddy in the Kantale area has also commenced.
