* Acquaintance of “Swiss Pastor” becomes coronavirus positive

Mar 24, Colombo: The Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that an acquaintance of a pastor, who held a service at a church in Ariyalai, Jaffna, while infected with the COVID-19 new coronavirus, is confirmed to have contracted the virus.

The infected person has not participated in the service, but had visited the pastor at his lodging.

The Governor of the Northern Province, PSM Charles, told the BBC Sinhala Service that 240 persons participated in the church service had been identified by Monday (March 23).

"240 people are being quarantined in their own homes under the supervision of the security forces. There are 20 persons closely associated with the pastor in a quarantine center run by the Army. They are under the supervision of health officials and security officers. Today, the North is the Lockdown. We will take a decision tomorrow," the Northern Province Governor said.

A total of 880 persons, who are residents of Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts and have arrived from Europe, and other countries, have been self-quarantined.

The curfew was lifted at 6 am today in the Northern Province districts and will be re-imposed at 12 noon until Friday (March 27) 6 am. The curfew will be imposed again in these districts from 12 noon Friday (March 27) until further notice.
