* Lanka Sugar Company to continue production of ethanol to meet the demand for disinfection

Mar 23, Colombo: Chief Executive Officer of Lanka Sugar Company Gamini Rasaputra stated that the production of ethanol at the sugar factories will be continued in order to meet the demand from state and private institutions for the coronavirus disinfection.

At a press conference held today (23rd), Rasaputra said that Ethanol is manufactured in the Sevanagala and Pelwatte sugar factories.

Alcohol is produced by the fermentation of molasses which is a byproduct of sugar manufacturing process.

The CEO said the staff of the two sugar factories are working 24 hours a day with the approval of the Commissioner General of Excise to meet the national requirement of Ethanol.
