Mar 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in February 2020 determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) rose to 8.1 percent from 7.6 percent recorded in January 2020 on a year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Monday.
The NCPI for all items for the month of February 2020 remained unchanged at 137.0.
Year-on-Year inflation of food group has increased from 13.7 percent in January 2020 to 16.3 percent in February 2020 and that of non‐food group has decreased from 3.0 percent to 2.1 percent during this month.
On Year-on-Year basis, contribution of food commodities to inflation was 6.96 Percent in February 2020, while contribution of non-food items was 1.19 percent.
The moving average inflation for the month of February 2020 is 4.5 percent. The corresponding rate for the month
of January 2020 was 4.1 percent.
