* Navy recovers 147 kg of Kerala Cannabis floating in the seas off Thalaimannar

Mar 21, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy Saturday recovered a haul of Kerala Cannabis weighing approximately 147 kilograms floating in the seas off Thalaimannar.

Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command carried out a special patrol in seas North of Thalaimannar lighthouse today and spotted two suspicious parcels floating on sea.

During further search, approximately 147kg of Kerala cannabis in wet weight was found and taken into naval custody. The dry weight of this seized Kerala cannabis is about 120kg and its value has been estimated as Rs.24.0 million.

It is believed that this stock of Kerala Cannabis which might have smuggled through sea routes have been abandoned due to continuous naval patrols.

The recovered stock of Kerala cannabis is due to be handed over to Mulankavil Police for onward investigation.

Sri Lanka Navy has apprehended more than 2 tons of Kerala Cannabis within past period of this year.
