* Attorney General instructs CCD to obtain statements from judges in Ranjan’s recordings

Jan 16, Colombo: Attorney General Dappula De Livera has instructed the Colombo Crimes Division Director to immediately record statements from the judges who had engaged in telephone conversations with MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

Coordinating officer of the Attorney General, Senior State Counsel Nisara Jayaratne said the Police Department has asked the Attorney General in writing for advice on action to be taken regarding the controversial voice recordings of Ranjan Ramanayake.

UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who was arrested over the controversial recordings of phone conversations, has been remanded until the 29th.

Attorney General has stated that the CDs containing the audio clips of telephone conversations with MP Ranjan Ramanayake have exposed the names of various courts and judges and that has violated Article 111 a (2) of the Constitution.

Accordingly, the Attorney General has instructed the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to arrest Ranjan Ramanayake for violating the Constitution by interfering with judicial affairs.
