Jan 14, Colombo: The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) of Police today (14) arrested UNP parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake following an arrest warrant issued by the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court in Nugegoda.
Attorney General Dappula de Livera instructed the Colombo Crimes Division this afternoon to obtain a court warrant to arrest MP Ramanayake on charges of interfering with the duties of the judiciary and judges.
Accordingly Gangodawila Magistrate Wasantha Kumara has issued a warrant for the arrest of MP Ranjan Ramanayake based on the facts presented by the Colombo Crimes Division.
The CCD arrested the former state minister at his residence in Madiwela.
The Attorney General states that the telephone conversations alleged to have been in the possession of MP Ranjan Ramanayake included conversations with some judges of the judiciary that are in violation of the Constitution.
The CDs, which were found in the possession of MP Ranjan Ramanayake, have revealed the names of several courts and judges. Accordingly, Attorney General Dappula Livera has said that Article 111C (2) of the Constitution has been violated.
