Jan 14, Colombo: The general Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says the party has decided to suspend the membership of UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake.
He was speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters Sirikotha today (14).
UNP General Secretary said Ramanayake’s party membership was suspended due to the statements he had made against Buddhism and Buddhist monks and the discovery of controversial telephone conversations, video clips and CDs at his residence.
On the orders of former Prime Minister and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe an inquiry was held into Ramanayake publicizing critical videos of Buddhist monks through media when he was a State Minister.
UNP General Secretary said charges against MP Ramanayake will be presented to the Working Committee of the party and action will be taken against him in the future.
