Jan 14, Colombo: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov arrived in Sri Lanka this morning on a two-day official visit.
The Foreign Minister was accompanied by a 42-member delegation.
Foreign Minister Lavrov and his delegation arrived at the Katunayake airport at 6.35 this morning on a special flight from Moscow.
Minister Susil Premajayantha, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka and the Ambassador of the Russian Embassy in Colombo welcomed the Russian Minister.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Minister Lavrov will meet with President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa today. He will also holds talks with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena.
The Russian Minister plans to discuss the current state of Russian-Sri Lankan relations, the prospects for promoting political dialogue, the development of cooperation in trade, economic, humanitarian and other fields, as well as consider expanding the bilateral legal framework, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
Following Sri Lanka's visit, Foreign Minister Lavrov will visit New Delhi, India tomorrow to take part in the Raisina Dialogue conference set to take place in the Indian capital on January 14-16.
