Jan 13, Colombo: No final decision has been taken to recall Dr. Mohamed Safi Sihabdeen of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital who has been sent on compulsory leave to service, the Secretary to the Public Service Commission MA Daya Senarath said.
Issuing a statement the official said all statements made by the media in contrary are false.
The official said Secretary to the Ministry of Health has been asked to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the allegations leveled against Dr. Safi and submit the report to the Public Service Commission's Health Services Committee and the report has not yet been submitted.
The Secretary of the Public Service Commission In his statement said the Health Services Committee of the Commission will not take a final decision until the Secretary of the Health Ministry present the report and his recommendations regarding the request made by Dr. Safi to reinstate him.
Dr. Mohamed Shafi was accused of carrying out illegal surgical sterilizations on women. Improper accumulation of funds, and allegedly aiding and abetting terrorism.
Following the investigations conducted earlier, in June 2019 the Criminal Investigations Department informed court that there was no evidence to prove the allegations made against Dr. Shafi Sihabdeen.
