Jan 13, Colombo: A special party leaders’ meeting will be held at parliament today. The meeting will be presided over by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

The party leaders’ meeting will be held to discuss the appointment of members to the now suspended Committees of Parliament.

Accordingly, the discussion will be held at 11.30 am at the Parliamentary Complex.

Leaders of all parties represented in Parliament will participate in the meeting.

Ten committees, including the Parliament Business Committee, Finance Committee, Accounts Committee, were abolished when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa prorogued the parliament on 2 December 2019. Upon prorogation of parliament committees for Special Purposes including the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), cease to function during the prorogation of Parliament and have to be reestablished when the parliament convenes.
