Feb 13, Colombo: A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Bell 212 helicopter was deployed Thursday to douse a forest fire in Singimale forest reserve in Hatton.

The forest fire has erupted this morning (13) and the Disaster Management Unit has sought the assistance of the Air Force to control the fire.

The Bell 212 conducted several Bambi bucket operations taking water from the Castlereagh reservoir to the top of Singimale Mountain.

Hatton Police, Forest Office, Hatton Dickoya Urban Council, residents and Army personnel tried to control the fire but were unsuccessful and have sought the SLAF help.

The Hatton Forest Office says the fire has destroyed about 3 acres of the forest.
