* UNP district organizers insist on contesting elections under elephant symbol

Feb 12, Colombo: A special meeting of the District Managers of the United National Party (UNP) was held at Sirikotha party headquarters this afternoon (Feb. 12) under the patronage of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Party General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, and MPs Rajitha Senaratne, Arjuna Ranatunga, Ruwan Wijewardene, Naveen Dissanayake, Vajira Abeywardena, Ashu Marasinghe and Saman Ratnapriya were also present at the meeting.

All the district managers insisted that the party should definitely contest the next election under the elephant symbol. They stressed that the party should not give up its identity for any reason.

The managers also emphasized to the party leadership that disciplinary action should be taken against those who violate party discipline at the first instance of violation.
