Feb 08, Colombo: Sri Lankan health authorities have emphasized that no other person infected with novel coronavirus has been found in Sri Lanka except the Chinese woman, who visited Sri Lanka last month from Hubei province.
Although several patients with similar symptoms as coronavirus have been admitted to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) and were kept under observation no other patient was found to have been infected with the deadly virus, the Director of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.
The 47-year-old Chinese woman admitted to the IDH was the only one found to be positive for the virus and she has fully recovered from the infection.
There is no need to be alarmed, the health official said advising the people to take preventive measures by following good hygiene practices.
Meanwhile, the 33 Sri Lankan students brought home from Wuhan, China on 1st February are still being quarantined in a specially made camp at the Diyathalawa Army base.
According to latest reports, the death toll from the novel coronavirus outbreak soared to 722 in China on Saturday and nearly 35,000 people have been infected with the virus so far.
