Apr 10, Colombo: The Government has allocated Rs.600 million to promptly procure the fish stocks from fishermen to prevent inconvenience to the fishing community and the general public.

This was revealed at the ruling party group meeting chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that understanding the global situation in the aftermath of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the Government should take measures to safeguard local industries and to produce the country’s requirement of rice, vegetables, fruits and poultry locally.

A system of procurement of fish brought from multi-day fishing vessels following the instructions of the Health Sector has been completed.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is implementing a program to distribute the fish stocks to the public without any shortage.
